Striking Prints from a young Pakistani artist

I finally got hold of the digital images of some lovely prints by Samar Ataullah – a graduate of the National College of Arts, Lahore.

Her work is inspired by the cinema and in particular female representation in the Pakistani cinema. The print below (titled Lollywood icon) is inspired by a famous picture of our legend Noor Jehan. The creative use of media makes it very appealing.

Most of the images here were part of Samar’s thesis work that has to be original and should reflect the composite arts education and training offered at the NCA. The prints above brings together the facets of a Punjabi film heroine or a mutiaar/Jatti (village beauty).

Here is another interesting experiment with the print-making genre

I am particularly fond of this one – it is multi- layered and well composed.

Samar is currently finshing a post-graduate degree in film-making in the United Kingdom.

Print making is an arduous technique and requires both creativity and intensive training.

  1. I love her style, and particularly the texture she creates. I wasn’t able to find much about her online. Is there another site that has more of her work?

  2. lovely!
